Malcolm and Daphne Drinkwater

Malcolm and Daphne Drinkwater live at and have built History Hill, Hill End. History Hill is a product of their planning and work, it is not leased or subsidized the owners are Malcolm and Daphne Drinkwater. The buildings, contents and mine have been built with the highest standards over the past eight years and if seeing is believing then a trip to History Hill is a must for anyone who has an interest in Australian Goldrush History.

Malcolm and Daphne are both miners and fossickers who have a broad knowledge about bush craft, farming and Australian History. Malcolm and Daphne have spent many years underground. Whilst building the "Son of Hope Mine" Daphne was comfortable loading the face with explosives for a firing or filling the mine truck with mullock.

When Neville (Yanny) Judge was in his mid sixties he transferred to Malcolm (when in his early twenties) most of his underground mining knowledge. Many yarns were shared underground. Yanny had been taught by an eighty-year-old working Hawkins Hill when Yanny was in his late teens, and a transfer of secrets also happened. Nothing beats the secrets of experience as they flow from knowing elderly at the right time.

Just prior to its closure Malcolm and Daphne worked at the
Royal Australian Mint Museum in Macquarie Street Sydney.

Also up until its closure Malcolm worked at
The Earth Exchange (Mining and Geological) Museum at the Rocks in Sydney.
