School Tours & Excursions

Our specialty is School Excursions offering an educational experience that will always be remembered but we also have group tours and individual tours.

In today’s computer age it is difficult for children to comprehend the practical and basic world of the 1800s.

Getting close to the real thing and a hands on approach to learning makes it easier for the young mind to realise the importance of the Goldfields in Australia’s history and how it has shaped who we are.

Tours can include :-

  • Museum
  • Operating stamper batteries
  • Underground mine
  • Village history
  • Gold panning
  • Cemetery
School excursion group

Gold Panning

Normally done on site in lower Golden Gully, Tambaroora.

Guides will have the dishes full (definitely unsalted, it’s the luck of the draw).

Underground Mine

An underground experience that has all the safety others don’t.

WorkCover inspected – to the highest safety standards.

Meals

For full day visits our dining room comfortably seats 130 people.

Special diets can be catered for by request.

We draw your attention to the following changes to our operations in 2023:

Stamper Battery

Due to increasingly stringent public liability and Workplace Health & Safety laws with regard to pressure vessels, the stamper battery operation is now not possible.  We do still provide the same informative explanation and presentation at the battery shed; however, the physical operation of the battery is no longer possible.

We are in the throes of building a replica electric-operated working model which we hope to have in operation when your group visits.

Morning tea / Catering

Self-catering site fee $33 (inc GST) per group :

For groups wishing to bring their own or their bus company’s morning tea, please note there is a small cleaning site fee of $33 (inc GST) per group.

This fee covers the cost to carefully remove all food scraps and packaging such as plastic wrapping, straws and poppas from the site. Our attention to this detail not only keeps our site looking neat and tidy, it also helps protect wildlife from harm, keeps our biocycle systems in working order and keeps unwelcome visitors such as mice and snakes from being attracted to the site.

Should your group wish to avoid this nominal self-catering surcharge, please feel welcome to enjoy your morning tea in nearby Hill End.

History Hill Morning Tea:

For groups choosing to purchase our History Hill morning tea, there is no additional site fee.

In choosing us to provide your group with morning  tea, we prepare and serve our catering in a controlled environment with careful supervision, using our equipment, finger food and reusable cups to minimise waste.

Please be aware that our dining room is for our services only, and is not available to self-catering groups.

Gold Panning Tours Licensing Fee

Several years ago the Department of Crown Lands introduced a licensing system for those conducting gold panning tours – even members of the general public have to apply for a licence permitting them to gold pan. This year the cost has risen again with minimal compliance to include a minimum of $30 million public liability.

The yearly fee is not a small one, but we rest assured we are fully compliant and anyone partaking in our gold panning ours is covered by the Act and our permit.

Tour Duration

There’s much to see at our museum and smaller groups will take less time to complete the tour program that larger groups.

We look forward to welcoming you group to History Hill Museum and Underground Mine.
